Tennis is a sport that is good for your health and mindset. You get a good workout running around the court, especially in Bangkok’s hot climate, and there’s a strategic side to the game that gives you a mental workout too. The game is known to improve your ability to deal with stress, and results in better problem solving off the court.

Tennis is a very social sport too - the game of doubles involves 4 players, so you’ll be sure to make new friends too, especially if you join a tennis club and sign up for lessons or social competitions.

If you have a tennis partner or a group of friends who fancy a hit, you’ll need to decide where to play and book a court. There’s a multitude of tennis clubs in Bangkok that let you book their tennis courts by the hour - and the rates are quite affordable. And there’s very little required to play - just a pair of good shoes, a tennis racket and some balls.

If you’re new to Bangkok, or just getting started with tennis - it’s a good idea to reach out to one of the tennis clubs near you. Sign up for some lessons to improve your game and also meet some tennis partners. The clubs may also offer social competitions and tournaments for experienced players.

You’ll find different types of courts:

  • “Open” - this means they are uncovered, and exposed to the elements. So, it can be hot during the day, and wet if it rains.

  • “Covered” or “indoor” - this means you will be playing in the shade under a roof, but usually in the open air.

  • The court surface varies too. Most will be hard court surfaces, such as plexi pave which is a hard playing surface used in international competitions. And there’s also clay and artificial grass surfaces.

Here’s a few of the tennis clubs in Bangkok,
